In focusing on these areas from a digital humanities perspective, our project seeks to explore how identity and space, both physical and digital, are experienced by borderland youth.

Kannada was one of the first languages of India to vernacularize written culture and led to great advancements in vernacular literatures in the subcontinent. A growing number of Classics curricula include courses on race and ethnicity; some Classics departments have made concerted diversity efforts in their hiring; and there has been more scholarship on various aspects of Classics and race.

There remains a treasure trove of premodern Kannada writing in stone inscriptions, palm-leaf manuscripts, and medieval wall paintings that have received very little attention from modern readers largely because very few people can actually read these texts given the great variety of scripts used throughout the history of Kannada writing and our limited paleographic resources. It has powerful research and pedagogical implications including interactive digital editions of many works. Our vision is to create an interactive digital portal that houses student-produced content (digital stories, 360 interactive videos, digital storymaps, digitally-enhanced human migration patterns, etc.)

Students would gain skills understanding how ubiquitous this transmission is and how a variety of information can reinforce older perceptions and thereby continue to affect society.
